BEREA, Ohio — Supporters, both young and old, watched results pour in for presidential candidate and Ohio governor, John Kasich, at an election night watch party Tuesday.
Many of the young people in attendance were students at Baldwin Wallace University, where the watch party was held.
“I love what he stands for—on top of all of his policies—the principles he’s carried out throughout this race, you know, never defaming anyone, never saying a bad word, especially when other candidates have really gone down the aisle on that. He’s just carried himself very well,” said senior Sara Schaffer.
“He’s done a lot of great things for the city of Cleveland. I work downtown. I’m a young professional. I can see that flourishing. I can see that happening. I admire him for that,” said Melissa Kadras, Baldwin Wallace University alumni.
For some students in attendance, like freshman Jessica Davis, this will be the first presidential election they vote in.
“I’ve seen the good that Kasich has brought to Ohio. I’ve experienced it firsthand and I think he can do the same for the rest of the country,” said Davis.
Kasich also had the support of his fellow Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity brothers in the Baldwin Wallace University chapter at Tuesday’s watch party.
“One of the benefits of going to school in Ohio and being a Pennsylvania resident is seeing the difference between our states, and seeing how much he’s done for his state and how much I can appreciate that, even if I’m not a resident in the state,” said Antonio Paris, student and Alpha Sigma Phi member.
“As a moderate Republican, he really has the best chance at winning this election for the Republican ticket,” added Tyler Bruening another student and member of Alpha Sigma Phi.
According to CNN, Kasich won the Ohio Republican primary as his first state in the 2016 presidential race.
