The final practice period for the Indy 500 started 13 minutes after the scheduled 11:05 start time, but the weather cooperated long enough for all 33 drivers to get on track. Fastest lap went to Tony Kanaan and his #14 ABC Supply Chevy of A.J. Foyt at 225.517. “We made it better today,” said Kanaan, who wasn’t pleased with his car after Monday’s practice period. “I found a couple of things today….I’m looking for the same car I had last year.” TK also stated that, “My row (6) is myself, Graham, and Dixon, and I don’t think we’re going to stay there long.”
The balance of the top six was made up of two Honda teams. Rookie Santino Ferrucci paced the three Dale Coyne racing entries with his second-placed 225.4, with James Davison (225.3), and Sebastein Bourdais (225.2) placing fifth and sixth respectively. Rahal/Letterman/Lanigan stablemates Takuma Sato (225.4) and rookie Jordan King (225.3) finished third and fourth. Penske driver Josef Newgarden turned the most laps with 72 total.
Buddy Rice, 2004 Indy 500 champion, does an interview with Kenny Sargent and “Crash Gladys” of “Speed Freaks” fame. Rice is serving as turn one spotter for JR Hildebrand this month.
