Breaking news from IMS: Fernando Alonso crashed in the third turn, but the impacts were not serious and Alonso emerged uninjured. HIs #66 McLaren Racing Chevy was following the car of Graham Rahal into turn three when, at 12:34, Alonso’s car drifted high on exit and impacted the safer barrier with the right front tire. The car then spun across the pit lane and hit the inside barrier, finally sliding through the grass, back across the track and impacted the fourth turn outer barrier. Team McLaren is currently assessing the damage and will decide whether to repair this car or switch to their backup car.
