Greetings from the World’s Greatest Race Course. Today is “Carb Day”, also known as “Dios de la Drunkos”, when many Indianapolis residents call in sick to work, then actually get sick at the concert (this year it’s Train and Blues Traveler — a little too tame for my tastes, how about Van Halen or Def Leppard?).
Tony Kanaan topped the speed chart in the one-hour final practice period with a blazing 227.791 lap. “If you haven’t figured it out by today, you’re in trouble,” Kanaan stated. “I’m always comfortable, I always know what I’ve got” Scott Dixon (225.6), Marco Andretti (225.2), Sebastien Bourdais (224.8), and Charlie Kimball (224.7) completed the top five. All 33 cars ran with Graham Rahal logging the most laps (51), while Danica Patrick encountered a minor engine problem that limited her to 15 laps. The period was incident-free.
Teenager Colton Herta just won the Freedom 100 Indy Lights race in a blanket finish over Pato O’Ward, Dalton Kellett, and Santi Urrutia. Herta is the son of former Indycar driver Bryan Herta. Next on the agenda is the Pit Stop Competition and,no, it is NOT a drag race!
